"By signing this contract, BDZ will ensure the delivery of new locomotives for the first time since 1986-1987. This is also the first serious investment in the renewal of the company's rolling stock in 15 years, when Siemens railcars were delivered in the period 2005-2008”, the Minister said. He thanked the BDZ team for the efforts, noting that all business processes in the company are consistent and efficient.
"I believe that BDZ Passengers has the opportunity to become a well-functioning European-type company with renewed rolling stock, focused on providing quality service to passengers. This is a fundamental sector for transport and the trend for development and modernization of the railway service in Bulgaria should and will continue, despite the challenges”, Rosen Zhelyazkov said.
The value of the contract is BGN 55,544,816.10, excluded VAT, and the proposed price for the execution of the contract is lower than the announced estimated value in the procedure amounting to BGN 57.5 million, excluded VAT. The price includes the value of the Siemens Smartron locomotives, technical maintenance and all necessary spare parts and supplies for a period of 3 years and 600 thousand km, as well as transport, insurance and putting into service. The warranty period for the maintenance of the locomotives has been increased to 36 months, and training of the repair and maintenance staff of BDZ will be conducted to ensure the long-term maintenance of the locomotives.
The delivery of the first locomotive will be made by the end of February 2021, and all ten locomotives will be in the depots of the national railway carrier by the end of May 2021.
